EPA’s Proposed Greenhouse Gas Emissions Statndards for Cars has Implications for Other Industry Sectors

EPA and the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) issued a joint proposal to both set greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions standards for cars and trucks and to improve fuel economy.  The effort, if finalized, would represent the first-ever national greenhouse gas emissions standards under the Clean Air Act, and would establish a precedent that could be applied to other industry sectors.  Comments were due November 27, and a final rule is expected by March 2010.

The proposed rule can be found at:  http://edocket.access.gpo.gov/2009/pdf/E9-22516.pdf
